Why Putin Invaded Ukraine

I’m sure you continue to pray for the evil Russian invasion of Ukraine. Civilians have been killed, millions have fled the country, but most have remained to fight for their freedom.

Then there’s the “truth” problem. Russia feeds us worthless propaganda. Ukraine puts the best face on their brave resistance. And the world press–not holding to a fear of God and commitment to the ninth commandment–feeds us numerous falsehoods and ideology-driven narratives.

I will speak to the lies and character we need starting next week. Today, let’s answer why Putin invaded Ukraine.

Age of Dictators

I intended to write this week on dictatorships that are growing in our world.

Then, Russia invaded Ukraine–and upped the ante as to what’s really happening. 

Suddenly, this looks hauntingly like a redux of World War II–except we have ten nations that possess nuclear weapons. That means the tactics of war and the stakes are quite different.

There’s no doubt we live in an age of dictators and maybe the beginning of a new world war.

What I’m Doing Because of What I See

I’m enjoying daily Bible devotions this year using my “original Bible”–the one I cut my teeth on when I first became a disciple. The old, black, leather book is held together with duct tape and contains the New American Standard translation. It’s wildly marked up after decades of study.

I started reading it from cover-to-cover fifty years ago. Daily Bible-reading is probably the most important habit I ever developed in life–and continues to this day. Reading “God’s thoughts” challenges me to be a doer of his words and priorities. 

Last week I shared a 30,000-foot view of what I see happening in the world. I would be remiss if I didn’t share what I am doing about it.
