House Speaker Mike Johnson: A Divine Appointment?
I was upset with Rep. Matt Goetz R-FL when he used the new House rules (with the support of seven others) to oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Republican infighting ensued causing numerous speaker nominees to be rejected. I felt that could damage a much needed “red wave” in the 2024 elections. I surmised that if the Democrats were “terrible” in their current policies, then the R’s were “stupid.”
I was wrong. The Republicans, by unanimous vote, made Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana the 56th Speaker of the House.
He appears to be a divine appointment.
If I Were the Devil
I’ve never been big on conspiracy theories though the blocking of the JFK assassination papers from the public makes me wonder what’s being hidden. Fortunately, in the the next life, everything will be revealed (Luke 12:3). I’m sure we’ll be shocked about “what really took place” in history.
I do believe in one conspiracy the Bible describes and is caricatured in C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters and Frank Peretti’s This Present Darkness:
The devil and his demons conspiring to destroy human beings.
During the past one hundred years, if I were the devil, what would I do?
Jesus and the Power Domains
If you’re like me, you might find it difficult at times to stay positive and balanced while gazing at the precipitous decline of Western and American culture around you.
Watching the news is depressing. Evil forces have been unleashed in our world (through human choices) to destroy people and nations from within. It wouldn’t take much for nuclear bombs and cyber attacks to strike from outside.
How do we stay faith full while watching the deterioration around us?
Here’s a helpful perspective on Jesus and the Power Domains.
