Why I Love America–and Will Stand Up for Her Freedom
I’d like to continue the Fourth of July memory this week with some personal thoughts about the United States.
It’s been my privilege to study in-depth many founding documents of our nation and to teach that subject for years. I gleaned my historical understanding from primary sources through many gifted researchers, authors, and communicators from different racial and social backgrounds.
It’s natural for human beings to love and study their family, church, ethnicity, vocational and country heritage–despite the flaws.
Here’s why I love America–and will stand up for her freedom.
The Other World War III
I was born too late to experience the horrors and deprivations of the first two World Wars (1914-18 and 1941-45).
But I’ve read enough history to realize that any talk about World War III must be serious–especially with nuclear weapons.
Since the recent killing of Qassem Soleimani, the terrorist head of the Iran’s elite Quds Force, some commentators have stated that Donald Trump brought us to the brink of World War III.
That would be ugly.
But I know of another World War III that could be far more devastating than atomic bombs…
The Road to Hell…
You know the corollary: “is paved with good intentions.”
It is–but not always. This week saw another whopper of fake news when the New York Times published and later corrected an embarrassingly uncorroborated hit piece on Justice Brett Kavanaugh. That story was diabolical from the beginning.
It started with bad intentions.
But much evil is slyly perpetrated under the guise of compassion, the good of the people, the “arc of history” or simply good intentions.
We must understand this clever tactic on the road to hell–and avoid and expose it.
