This Culture War is All About God

It’s quite apparent that the Western World and its apex–the United States of America–is engaged in a cultural civil war. I have written numerous pieces on this subject and was among the first to call attention to the fragile state of Western Civilization.

Most civil wars aren’t quick–they take years to play out and only one side wins. This one will be no different except for one enormous detail.

This culture war is all about God.

This Culture War is All About God

I’m currently reading David McCullough’s classic 1776 which describes the momentous first year of the American Revolution. What the patriots called the “Glorious Cause” was technically fought between the America colonies and the British Crown. However, I don’t remember learning in history class that half of the American colonists sided with the Tories and the other half with the patriots.

In fact, after Washington’s rag-tag army stood down the British Armada in Boston Harbor and the battle lines shifted to New York, most of the citizens of America’s second largest city (numbering about 20,000 people at the time) welcomed the British invaders and fed and sheltered them. General Washington was not just fighting England, but also those who wanted to live under King George’s tyranny (taxation without representation).

In many ways it was a civil war–coupled with “bullies from aboard.” The fighting went on with victories and defeats for eight years (1175-1783). Most of that time was “down” for the freedom fighters. Without Washington’s tenacious yet humble leadership and numerous providential acts of God, American patriots would never have triumphed.

That war was fought over principles–self-government and taxation. Both sides believed in God.

The War Between the States–the Civil War–was fought over slavery. Slavery existed as an accepted (or tolerated) human practice for thousands of years. The teachings of the New Testament, British law, the Declaration of Independence and finally the Civil War led to its demise.

But as Abraham Lincoln stated in his second inaugural address, though the North and South were divided over slavery, they both believed in God: “Both read the same Bible, and pray to the same God; and each invokes His aid against the other. … The prayers of both could not be answered; that of neither has been answered fully. The Almighty has His own purposes.”

The American Civil War was not about God.

This one is.

On one side are the God-deniers and haters. On the other stand God-believers and lovers. There’s little middle ground.

That war has been enjoined in 2020.

What Seattle mayor Jenny Durkin foolishly labeled a “summer of love” has devolved into a cultural battle for America. The economic uncertainty created by the Covid pandemic (especially bad leadership in cities and states) coupled with the hi-jacking of the George Floyd murder by thugs from Antifa and Black Lives Matter Marxists, have unleashed a cultural civil war in  the USA including:

Is our society going nuts?

No, we’re just in the “juice-up” stage of a full-blown culture war. At this juncture, all the events are aimed at November 3 where the American people will choose between a political party/administration that still believes “In God We Trust” and another that will propel us off a socialist/communist cliff.

It’s time to be honest about the chaos.

First, the demonic world that hates God, Jesus, and Israel lurks behind the human agitation. They are the true God-haters who want to destroy all aspects of faith and wipe Israel off the map (Revelation 12:17).

Whenever you see evil humans at work, don’t forget the sneering eyes of Satan influencing them. God’s people must do spiritual warfare against these invisible principalities and powers being unleashed in our world (Ephesians 6:12-19).

Second, we face atheists, secular progressives, anarchists, Democrats and a corrupt media– cobbled together to take down biblical faith.

Simplistic? Unfair?

Ask yourself this question: What is the ideology and political profession of the violent protesters? If we took a poll of them, what would we learn?

The answer is obvious. Those being mobilized to destroy America (“radically transform it”) are not Republicans or people of biblical faith. They are nearly 100% Democrat, non-believers and “progressives”–who have hijacked the very word.

Liberal economist Friedrich von Hayek taught the true meaning of progressivism when he said, “We must create conditions favorable to progress rather than ‘planning progress.’ … The guiding principle in any attempt to create a world of free men [people] must be this: A policy of freedom for the individual is the only truly progressive policy.”

“Freedom” is exactly what today’s progressives are out to crush.

We’ve seen at least one culture war like this–the French Revolution (1789-1799). The God-haters created a bloodbath in France that was the antithesis of the American Revolution.

Eric Metaxas explains: “You saw this with the French Revolution. There was [an abhorrence] at the bottom of it of God, of any kind of authority. And these people are drunk with the idea that they can somehow be an authority themselves, they can seize power… If you really want to cut to the chase, you forget about [Confederate] generals and things. You go right for God, you go right for the Virgin Mary, my goodness, you go for churches.”

“If you want to know why the mainstream media isn’t covering these attacks –it’s no secret. They don’t want to expose this movement for what it is — a sham of racial equality and a revolt against the rule of law rooted in the transcendent truth of God. Once that foundation for government is gone, and these zealots are coming for it, it’s only a matter of time before America is a hollowed shell ready for transformation.”

Tony Perkins agrees: “Black Lives Matter, Antifa, the anarchists, and the vigilantes, they’re all ‘trained Marxists.’ And Marxism ‘has no place for God.’ Now, our monuments aren’t just paying for it, but our faith communities too. Back when ISIS marched through small Iraqi towns, destroying ancient artifacts and scared sites, the West was appalled. We prided ourselves, Victor Davis Hanson says, ‘on the idea that liberal societies would never descend into such nihilism.’ What a difference five years makes.”

My good friend Dr. Jay Grimstead, president of the Coalition on Revival, is calling the Church to resist this onslaught of evil:

“I have come to see that the cosmic battle between good and evil on the planet has at this point in history presented itself as primarily, the Marxist/socialist/ globalist team of humans inspired and empowered by Satan versus Christian culture, Christianity, God and the laws and principles of the Bible…If this perspective is true, then Bible-believing Christians in the U.S. better rise up in unity and strength immediately to courageously take leadership in this war since they and their churches, and Christian culture & history are seen as the enemy the Marxists are attempting to attack, silence, minimize, demonize and destroy.”

Did you know that while God-haters attack America’s cities and history, the Chinese Communists are banning pictures of Jesus in homes throughout China?

Same war. Same contestants. God-haters versus God-lovers.

Vote wisely in the coming elections. Pray desperately (2 Chronicles 7:14) and speak out.

This culture war is ALL about God.

Until one side wins (remember World War II).

Yes indeed, “Culture determines.” Cultural determinism forms and nurtures human behavior. Dissentient dysfunctional behavior has for its antecedent a God-less variable. The seeds of Godlessness were planted by our forefathers, and their forefathers, and their forefathers . . . . What we inherit is a harvest of blind irrationality that will not accept Truth.
I am reminded of the Truth recorded long ago, “for lack of vision my people have become unrestrained in there trespasses,” Prov. 29:18. We are like sheep who have no Shepherd, the blind leading the blind, moved by irrationality unable to accept the factual Truths that invite us to a salvific experience of wellbeing for having been born again. I am thankful that in my waywardness (Matthew 9:36) the Eternal One saw and had compassion on me. I trust that unto Him shall the gathering of the people be, Gen. 49:10.

Right on !!! The church in general doesn’t know we are at war, and for the most part wants no part of it. There are some small fires of hope but in general the only reason most desire revival is so they won’t have to give up their easy life, no thought of reaching the world with the Gospel or Gods glory.

I’m at a bit of a loss. Marxists. Is God eating Rolaids because of Marxists? Is your God big enough for 2020? Sounds like culture war is something you might be into. But perhaps he is doing a new thing.

God is big enough for everything–as we all know.

But culture or civil wars on earth can be hellish for human beings. Think of the 6-8 million who lost their lives under Hitler; Maybe 60 million under Stalin; And possibly 100 million under Mao (in what was called a “Cultural Revolution”). And numerous others.

I was trying to warn this generation to prepare for possible suffering–in which more than Rolaids will be needed.

There’s nothing flippant about that (read Dietrich Bonhoeffer).
