I Agree with Bill O’Reilly. But Here’s What’s Missing
My three favorite national commentators on American and world affairs are probably Victor Davis Hanson, Rod Martin, and Bill O’Reilly. I read and watch all three of them weekly.
They share wisdom from a Judeo-Christian perspective with slightly different strengths:
- VDH – intellectual historian with a mainline church background.
- Rod Martin – Futurist and positive entrepreneur who is Southern Baptist.
- Bill O’Reilly – a practicing Catholic who supports traditional values and fact-based reporting.
According to the list above, I guess I’m ecumenical in gathering my weekly news roundup.
A column by Bill O’Reilly caught my eye this week. But something was missing from it.
Easter Awakening
Today in my morning devotions (YWAM Prayer Diary) I started what theologians call the “History Books.” There are 12 that begin with Joshua and end with Esther.
Eugene Peterson (The Message) says in his preface that, “history is attentive to the conditions in which people encounter and experience God ” and that history is important because “the only reason for paying attention to people and events is to stay alert to God.”
This past Easter weekend I hope we were all attentive to people and events–which were amazing.
Let’s call it an Easter awakening.
Why Is Communism Raising Its Ugly Head in America–Again?
November 11 is a trifecta date for celebrating courage. It’s Veterans Day in the USA, (honoring vets), Armistice Day (end of WWI), and St. Martin’s Day. Martin of Tours was a 4th century bishop who famously became a “soldier for Christ.”
Thirty-six years ago today I was attending a YWAM leaders conference in Niagara Falls, New York, where we watched the fall of the Iron Curtain. Communism failed in Russia and part of the world was liberated–some nations for the first time.
Past generations understood the horrors of communism–100 million people cruelly killed in the 20th century. Today’s younger generations are largely ignorant.
Communism is raising its ugly head–again–and we must courageously defeat it.
