They Don’t Believe in Right and Wrong

I’m writing on the most recent “day of infamy” in world history–October 7–when Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel two years ago took nearly 1200 lives with 251 others taken hostage.

That war (and hopeful imminent ceasefire) is over a piece of land. But it represents a far greater global battle between the God-deniers (influenced by Satanic forces) and the God-affirmers who trust in a Higher Power.

One group believes in God and absolute truth. The other side is very different.

They don’t believe in right and wrong.

They Don’t Believe in Right and Wrong

Like news commentator Bill O’Reilly, I consider myself a “simple man.” That means I try to break things down into basic principles and truths. That practice helps me understand and respond to current events.

Concisely distilling what’s happening around me is a natural bent. In the early days in Youth With A Mission, Loren Cunningham sometimes asked me after a YWAM leadership meetings to “summarize” what had been said. He recognized my ability to clarify complex issues/debate into simple terms.

Just recently, fifty years later, the president of a missions board asked me to do the same thing related to a detailed property transaction. I typed out a clear account of what had been said and the action points they demanded.

Today I’d like to do the same with the cultural battle raging in America. The main events this fall include the evil assassination of Christian conservative influencer Charlie Kirk and federal ICE agents battling anarchists in Democrat- run cities.

Let’s begin with some perspective.

As I detailed in my book River of God, there are only five predominant views of God (or worldviews). They are biblical faith (God of the Bible), polytheism (many gods), pantheism (all is God), Islam (Muslim God), and atheism (man is God).

Biblical faith is the truth about life, and the other four are various perversions of it.

The current Israeli-Hamas war is a conflict between biblical ideas (Israel’s land right) and militant Islam. God is using the return of his chosen people to their ancient homeland as evidence of His reality (and the aspirations of a free people). Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. There is no such thing as a Palestinian “state” as terrorist Hamas has brutally controlled Gaza for years and is intent on annihilating the Jews.

Hamas does not believe in right and wrong as seen in the October 7, 2023, massacre. Israel defends itself with biblical principles of restraint that come from the Torah.

On another continent, the USA is fighting a cultural war between biblical faith and various forms of atheism. Humanism, Progressivism, Marxism, Socialism and Communism are simply different labels and degrees of being anti-God.

When you’re an anti-God atheist, you don’t believe in right and wrong. It’s all about power over others (Lucifer’s sin).

Atheists reject the divine law as expressed in the Ten Commandments, which underpin Western Civilization:

  • # 1 – “No gods before me.” Democrats openly booed God at their 2012 convention and have become the party of atheism. Most Republicans espouse “In God We Trust.”
  • #2 – “Taking God’s name in vain.” Ungodly people swear with ease and fill social media with verbal filth.
  • #3 – “Remember the Sabbath.” Most believers worship on the Lord’s Day while atheists please themselves.
  • #4 – “Honor father & mother.” Many non-believers are anti-marriage and don’t respect the nuclear family.
  • #5 – “Don’t murder.” Ungodly people support abortion (the world’s biggest holocaust) and condone killing people with whom they disagree (i.e. Charlie Kirk).
  • #6 – “Don’t steal.” Atheists encourage big government inflation (theft) and “soaking the rich.” Believers  support private property and smaller government.
  • #7 – “No adultery.” Atheists believe in sexual anarchy–even drag queens teaching kindergarteners. Believers know that all sex outside of a man and woman in marriage is personally and socially destructive.
  • #-8 – “No lying.” Fake news spews from ungodly journalists and commentators. Democrat leaders lie with impunity about their policies and practices.
  • #9,10 – “No coveting.” Greed is the fuel of anarchy and unrest in the streets.  Atheists covet sex (your neighbor’s wife), money (your neighbor’s goods), and power (Satanic pride). Ungodly DA’s let the criminals go.

The current American cultural war is not over a single issue (slavery) as was the Civil War 1861-1865. Both North and South in the 19th century shared the biblical worldview as stated by Abraham Lincoln in March 4, 1865 2nd inaugural address:

Both read the same Bible and pray to the same God and each invokes His aid against the other.

Not anymore.

Today’s “North” (the people of God) still read their Bibles and pray. Today’s “South” do neither and have no moral compass except the end justifies the means.

Thus, today’s cultural civil war is far more dangerous because 30-50% of the U.S. population (depending on the poll) does not believe in right or wrong.

That’s frightening among 340 million people.

The godly can win this war through extensive evangelism, discipleship, and renewal of our cultural foundations (restoring freedom). The ungodly could win through denying and destroying our biblical foundations (bringing totalitarianism).

In a recent article called “When a Culture Rejects God, Should We Be Surprised By the Chaos?,” Peter Demos said it clearly:

We’re watching our culture unravel, confusion about right and wrong, growing disorder, and a sense that the ground beneath us is shifting.

But for those of us who believe in a higher moral authority, this shouldn’t come as a shock. When a society turns its back on the idea that law comes from something greater than ourselves, something unchanging and true, we can expect things to fall apart.

The Bible teaches that God is the ultimate source of truth and justice. His laws aren’t just spiritual guidelines; they reflect His character and give us a clear standard for how we’re meant to live. They’re not meant to burden us, but to bring peace, order, and human flourishing.

Blaze Media’s Billy Hallowell writes:

There’s an alarm sounding among many faith and political leaders who believe America is at a dire crossroads — a point where we must carefully choose our destiny.

“We have crossed the Rubicon,” Pastor Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, told me last week. “We’re no longer what we used to be. The age of civility is officially over, and we’ve entered into the proverbial dark, slippery slope where rhetorical violence becomes physical violence.”

He’s not wrong. The disturbing reality is that a sizable proportion of the public is now OK with political violence. In fact, a YouGov survey recently asked, “Do you think it is ever justified for citizens to resort to violence in order to achieve political goals?”

Shockingly, 11% answered, “Yes, violence can sometimes be justified,” with an additional 11% stating they were unsure and another 5% preferring not to respond. Thus, while 72% rejected political violence, 27% either weren’t sure, wouldn’t respond — or seemed to back it.

This willingness to entertain political violence is so alarming and otherworldly that it can only come from one source: true evil.

These statistics reveal a disturbing level of moral corruption within the American populace, with human hearts taking on the nature of the devil in such a merciless way. Rather than showing honor and decency, many in recent days have opted for full-blown hatred — a satanic level of bile that says much more about them than anyone else.

We who love God and people must win this 21st century war through prayer, sharing our faith, and “renewing the foundations.”

Because we know with certainty that right is the ultimate victor through Jesus Christ.

Your perspective is an eye opener Ron. Very well said.
