Discern Whose Voice You’re Listening To
The universe began with the voice of God. He spoke everything we see into existence (Genesis 1).
The first four voices that interacted on earth (Genesis 2 & 3) were the voices of God, Adam (the first male), Eve (first female), and the serpent (a manifested form of Satan or Lucifer).
Four points of view –the Eternal God revealing Truth (Reality), two human beings learning both truth and error, and the fourth voice deceiving our first parents.
That deceit–listening to the wrong voice–continues to to this day all over the world.
To overcome deception, you must discern whose voice you’re listening to.

To you English language purists, I know that the above title is incorrect. You’re not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition. It should say, “Discern the voice to whom you’re listening.” Another way to write it: “Remember whose voice is really speaking.”
Sorry, but my chosen title seemed to make it clearer and more colloquial. (Thanks for your grammatical indulgence.)
We are flooded with voices across our planet. Modern communications multiply and magnify it into trillions of viewpoints in a 24-hour period.
But God voice is our solid rock GPS. Human voices vary widely, given the moment and the topic. But don’t forget the fourth voice of Satan and his demons (fallen angels).
Here’s what I mean.
For example, there’s much talk in America today of democratic socialism. The DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) are on a primary-election-roll in some blue states/cities. Some voters are buying the Marxist gobbledygook.
But calling a person a “democratic socialist” is akin to describing a “virgin prostitute.” The two words are opposites. Democratic socialists believe in taking over the means of production (business & commerce), deny free speech, and give power to elites (experts) to tell us how to live. They believe in only one election–where they deceive enough people to take over the power levers of government then suppress those who voted for them.
Democracy requires freedom. Socialism demands tyranny. There are national forms of socialism like Hitler’s NAZIS (“National Socialist German Workers Party”), some partially woke European countries, and individual voices like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. All of them want to control you and tell you what to do.

Polls also show that the Communist Party is on the rise in the USA. I don’t mean more people taking “communion” unless you’re talking about chalices of blood. Communism is socialism with a gun. They, too, want to control and create for you a “worker’s paradise” (equal poverty) on earth. The difference is they not only will take your wealth, health and livelihood, but they will kill to get it.
Communists break all the Ten Commandments with impunity (most prominently the sins of God-denial, lying, stealing, coveting, and murder). If socialism is Tyranny 101, then communism is Tyranny 201. They simply vary by degree of totalitarianism, not basic philosophy. Both make the state “God” and the people their prey.
Communist governments have killed more people (100 million plus in the 20th century alone) and created more misery on earth (USSR, China, the killing fields of Cambodia, Vietnam, North Korea, Cuba etc.) than any other ideology in the history of mankind.

Militant Islam is another example of religious socialism or communism. For 47 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran suppressed and tyrannized over 90 million people. Finally President Trump had the guts to try and stop their jihadist totalitarianism, nuclear weapon pursuit, and state-sponsored terrorism that made the Middle East a caldron of fear. Every person in their right mind should be rooting for Israel and the USA to eliminate the terrorists and liberate the Persian people.
Radical Muslims (not the peace-loving variety) take their orders from Allah whose Koran (Quran) contains over 100 war verses about killing “infidels” who refuse to “submit.” The word “Islam” means submission. To what or whom? In Iran, to an unelected oligarchy of religious tyrants who killed at least 40,000 of their own people in early 2026 for “lack of submission.”
Who really is Allah? He’s not the True God of grace and love who died on the Cross for our sins.

Maybe the worst example of totalitarian American leadership today is New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani whose combination of Marxist/socialist/communist/Islamic ideology is plunging America’s largest city toward ruin. He even used the 250th birthday of the USA to trash the country in which he’s privileged to live. When I watched him deliver his Marxist diatribe from behind George Washington’s famous desk on July 3, I instantly thought:

It’s just as important to understand the voice behind written words as well. I recently looked through our local voter guide for Washington State’s August 4 primaries. As I read the resumes and words of two of our incumbent state leaders, I noticed that both listed Planned Parenthood as an organization that backed their candidacies.
Abortion is possibly history’s greatest sin—billions of innocent human beings killed worldwide on the altar of selfish convenience during the past 75 years. Murder is the worst action you can take toward another human being. It destroys their freedom and earthly contributions to the world. Yet two of our elected representatives were proud to point to Planned Parenthood–the largest baby-killing group in the U.S.–as supporters of their “leadership.”

The examples I’ve shared above–and there are zillions more–point back to one primary deceptive voice.
Satan. (The devil, Lucifer.)
Whenever you hear of control (tyranny), lack of freedom, re-distributing wealth (envy or theft), or killing for selfish reasons (including abortion–the world’s largest holocaust), you know you are listening to the voice of Satan parroted through human lips.
Jesus warned us of the evil, Satanic voice he’d witnessed for millenniums:
For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44).
The same controlling, murderous voice was first heard by humans in the Garden of Eden. It now echoes throughout our fallen world, especially dangerous on the lips of those who want our votes.
And remember: Satan’s voice can be very convincing, even compassionate. 2 Corinthians 11:14 explains:
And no wonder, even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Whenever you are listening to a friend, colleague, boss, neighbor, civic leader, journalist, news pundit, or entertainer, filter what you’re hearing through the voice of God in your heart and conscience–backed up by the Bible. Do the same with whatever you read–online or via a book or publication.
Hebrews 5:14 encourages us to become wise and mature in listening to the voices around us:
But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
Practice discernment daily. Talk to God about everything. Become fluent in His Word from cover to cover. We can only be light in our world if we recognize the voice of evil and disarm it with truth from our lips.

And proclaim God’s truth and Good News of Jesus to a waiting world.
