A Proverb a Day Keeps Sin Away

This week we celebrate the life and legacy of George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States. I never knew Bush the Elder on a personal level, but met him during the 1980’s. President Bush was an honorable man who served his family and country faithfully.

When I think of him, the character qualities of humility, loyalty and civility come to mind. These and many other traits are marvelously expounded in the Bible’s “Wisdom Book”–Proverbs.

If “imitation is the greatest form of admiration,” then we would do well to follow our former president’s example by re-discovering the moral power of the book of Proverbs.

After all, a proverb a day keeps sin away.

The Bible and the Constitution: Two Compasses That Matter

The Pacific Northwest was rocked yesterday by the death of Paul Allen, co-Microsoft founder, owner of the Portland Trailblazers and Seattle Seahawks, global philanthropist and the world’s 21st richest person.

Though Paul Allen and I were born two months apart in 1953 and grew up in the same part of the country. we never met and I know nothing about the the most important thing in his life–his relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

I do know that every person and nation follows a “compass” for behavior that affects all they do and that determines their destiny. Two such “compasses” are the Bible and the US Constitution.

They stand tall as two compasses that matter.

Kavanaugh Conundrum: I See a Satanic Signature

Stunning political theater is taking place in the United States this week.

Eminently qualified Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has been accused by a secular progressive professor of drunken traumatization at a party when she was 15 and he was 17.

The proposed #MeToo moment took place 37 years ago.

Judge Kavanaugh will speak to the allegations this week–and I hope his accuser will be forced to do the same. In this column, I will try to be fair in my analysis of this constitutional moment.

I will also give you a viewpoint that is rare in today’s news–a total view of the debacle, both seen and unseen.
