Freedom 250: The Five Thousand Year Leap
America just saved the world (again) in the War with Iran. The Islamic Republic is a satanically-inspired terrorist nation. They were close to having atomic bombs to use against Israel, the USA, and other countries.
Iran doesn’t respect “mutually assured destruction” (MAD). They believe blowing up the planet will bring the final Mahdi (Messianic Muslim Ruler) to usher in sharia to the cosmos.
We destroyed their navy, air defenses, and economy to bring them to their knees. They surrendered under our terms while we negotiate an enforceable agreement and pray for the Persian people to overthrow them.
America is back as we approach our nation’s 250th birthday.
One historian calls the “miracle of America” a five thousand year leap.
Freedom 250: The Five Thousand Year Leap
The official name of the United States of America’s semiquincentennial or quarter-millennium celebration is Freedom 250. Please go to the government website to relearn the history of the USA and see the events that will take place in the coming weeks.
The White House recently sponsored an incredible patriotic event by hosting the Ultimate Fighter Championship (UFC) on June 14. Four thousand people gathered on the South Lawn to enjoy the festivities (shades of Teddy Roosevelt, the “vigorous life”) while 80,000 looked on from beyond the perimeter.
The evening was spectacular and you can watch it here.
The FIFA (World Cup) soccer games–brought to America by the current administration as a prelude to our quarter-millennium birthday party– is taking the nation by storm. Thousands of tourists now realize that their home countries lied to them about the lives and customs of Americans.
Freddy the German has captivated social media for weeks and may even end up at the White House. In Seattle (with its communist mayor), patriotic fans chanted USA and wore red, white, and blue as the U.S. team defeated Australia.
We’re celebrating America again. That’s especially right in 2026 when we remember and rejoice in the birth of the most impactful and benevolent nation in world history.
The United States of America.
Yes, there are many America-haters/doubters in our country today. Marxist-Communism is on the rise and many children aren’t learning about the “glorious cause” our ancestors fought for 250 years ago.
When I was younger, I read and re-read America’s unique and exceptional story to our children. During the 1990’s, our family hosted an annual Fourth of July party for our King’s Kids ministry (up to 150 people at our home) for fellowship, good food, shooting off fireworks, and celebrating the blessings of America.
At every event, I gathered everyone before dark and read from a history book about the wonder and greatness of the American Revolution so that we would rightly love our nation.
Human beings should love all the important God-gifts in our lives–family, friends, all people (that’s why we do missions) and our nations. America is easy to love because God used her to bring great blessings to the world–despite our imperfections and sins.
This summer I am reading some books about the birth and history of the USA. They are refreshing my memory of the privilege of being an American and have reminded me of our providential beginnings.
The American Revolution was a 5,000 year leap from kings, tyrants, and misery to freedom to govern ourselves under God. It was a great “leap” from normal tyranny to glorious liberty. The American colonists in 1776–numbering some 2.5 million people –referred to the American Revolution as “The Glorious Cause.”
Think about that for a moment.
When founding father and future 2nd president John Adams signed the Declaration of Independence on July 2, 1776 by voting to “dissolve the connection” with Great Britain (we celebrate the wrong day due to communication problems 250 years ago), he stated to his wife Abigail in a letter:
“We are in the midst of a revolution, the most complete, unexpected, and remarkable of any in the history of nations.”
That’s very high praise–which can be backed up with historical facts.
Two months previous, Massachusetts Lieutenant Joseph Hodgkins wrote his wife Sarah on April 5, 1776 while marching off to war:
“I am willing to serve my country in the best way and manner that I am capable of because I am engaged in this glorious cause, I am willing to go wherever I am called.”
The phrase caught on. During those exciting yet perilous days of the American Revolution, many colonists referred o the “Glorious Cause” of the United States of America.
Do you?
If you don’t, why not?
I can think of two reasons. First, we don’t teach the real history of the United States anymore in many of our schools and universities. Probably 90% of American children have never heard the story of the “Glorious Cause”–which highlights a sad biblical truth:
“My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6).
The second reason is political correctness (secular fascism). We’ve been inundated by the media and secular politicians that America started bad and remains bad.
The New York Times, America’s flagship politically-correct newspaper, went to great expense a few years ago to produce a video that said “America is OK”–not good or great.
History would rebut them.
The vast majority of people in every century lived under despots. Most of the 8.3 billion people alive today exist without liberty under tyrants–that is, totalitarian regimes.
For example, billions of people live under Muslim tyranny (50 plus nations), Communist tyranny (China, Vietnam, Cuba, North Korea), and other forms of dictatorial control (even growing totalitarianism in Europe).
It has been extremely rare for any people to live freely on earth.
America’s incredible and never-before-seen “five thousand year leap” in 1776 established a two-headed form of self-government unique in the annals of time. This was the exceptional greatness of the American Revolution.
Individual Self-Government
Because of a predominantly Bible-believing culture, the American colonists committed to regulating their own conduct as stated in the immortal words of our constitutional architect and fourth president James Madison:
“We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind of self-government; upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.”
Godly character produces personal freedom and strong families.
Representative Civil Government by the People
The Declaration of Independence, penned by our third president, Thomas Jefferson, made a unique historical announcement that civil governments must be formed by the consent of the people to protect their God-given rights to life, liberty, and happiness (property).
The U.S. Constitution enshrines civic freedom, responsibility, and tranquility.
Thus, the American Revolution joined together in a unique bond the cry of every human heart for personal and civil liberty. This wondrous combination never existed in any other time or place (except ancient Israel).
Over two centuries America’s double-barreled engine of freedom propelled the Good News of Jesus Christ around globe, helped raised scores of millions of people out of economic poverty, saved the planet in two worlds wars (and the Iran War), and continues to bless billions of people worldwide with the lamp of liberty.
Celebrate America this summer!
Tell the amazing stories of our heritage, principles, heroism, and beliefs. Then pray that these truths will travel our inter-connected world into the hearts of many other nations and cultures.
2026 is a year to thank God for the birth of America.
It was and is a glorious cause indeed (despite our many faults) that is worth living and dying for in every nation.
