Atheist Thinking is Turning Us into Idiots
I’ve been writing for decades about the worldview battle taking place in Western culture.
For hundreds of years our civilization anchored itself in the bedrock truths of the Old Testament as wise and crucial for just and humane societies. We also imbibed the grace and love of God found in Jesus as the oxygen of our social fabric.
We ascribed to the Judeo-Christian worldview. Grace and truth make individuals and nations strong.
But like a cancer, an atheistic, no-God, secular worldview has been infecting our nation for years.
And atheistic thinking is turning us into idiots.
Atheist Thinking is Turning Us into Idiots
The Western World is becoming “loony”–devoid of common sense–because atheistic thinking is rising. It’s time we did something about it.
Every 21st century follower of Jesus must speak truth to the issues of the day. We must “stand and deliver” while tempering it with grace and the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5). Our timidity is allowing the atheist worldview to turn us into fools.
The main “wisdom book” of the Bible declares in Proverbs 28:13:
“The righteous are as bold as a lion.”
Why? because their right-thinking-and-living makes them secure and confident in God, their daily tasks, and the issues they face. The book of Proverbs is all about right and wrong choices, being wise or being a fool.
If every American read a proverb a day as did many saints in past centuries (there are 31 chapters in Proverbs, one for every day of the week), we would be deeply blessed as a people. But because we have turned away from God’s wisdom and let atheistic thought fester in the media, schools, and other institutions, we are becoming idiotic.
Devoid of common sense.
What has America and the West become stupid about?
Just about everything–because of our rejection of the biblical worldview.
For over 300 years, from 1620 when the Pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts to 1960 when the youth rebellion began, the American nation secured its moral, family, and civic roots in the teachings of Scripture. Never perfectly of course. Human beings are fallen. But more complete than most nations before it (except Israel in its prime).
We constructed our society (following the European Reformation) on the Ten Commandments and referenced the Bible more than most other texts during the Constitutional Convention. We also enjoyed numerous spiritual revivals that brought people to faith in Jesus and infused the nation with righteous values.
Biblical attitudes and actions became strong pillars of Americana.
But in the past 65 years, we have allowed absurd atheist ideas to creep into all aspects of national life. Our spiritual and moral decline has produced angst and depression–especially among the younger generations.
Let’s first point out some examples in the broader culture, then finish with the latest idiocy to hit the fan:
- Abortion – we kill precious babies, made in the image of God, now up to the time of birth (recent legislation in Massachusetts and other states). This is violating the sixth commandment, “Do not kill.”
- Sexual chaos – we’ve crippled the nuclear family by promoting “anything goes” in sexual behavior instead of encouraging and protecting God-given marriage (destroying the seventh commandment).
- Voting for socialists and communists, which is abandoning the eighth commandment of “Do not steal” and the tenth, “Do not envy.”
- We pushed God out of the schools (abandoning the first three commandments). Instead of “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10), we’ve embraced the empty platitudes of progressive activism.
- Atheist zealots want to defund the police and open our borders to bring a breakdown of law and order.
Atheistic lies in these and other areas come from the satanic world to cripple and destroy our society. The devil rarely needs to invent a new lie to do damage. Most of the time, he simply makes an old one look new like the “Democratic Socialists of America” i.e. communism. (Robin Schumacher has a brilliant piece on this evil retread).
One of the most insane lies currently being promulgated is that men aren’t really men and women aren’t really women. We can be whatever gender we want on a given day, or over a lifetime.
That’s just plain stupid.
The Bible tells us that God created two sexes, male and female (Genesis 1:27). Science confirms that truth revealing females have XX sex chromosomes in every cell of their bodies and males host XY chromosomes.
That’s it. There’s no debate.
It was as plain as day for 6,000 years–unless you choose to live in the “dark.”
Atheists don’t believe the Bible and they deny the science. This greatly hurts 21st century women, especially in the realm of sports and personal privacy.
The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) has become the biggest idiot on this issue.
Suzanne Bowdey comments in “The WNBA is Terrified About One Word–Woman:”
Who knew a first-grade science question could so thoroughly upend a $5.5 billion enterprise? And yet the WNBA, whose first letter stands for women, can’t seem to shake the media firestorm over the meaning of sex.
Now, weeks into what should have been a non-controversy — Sophie Cunningham’s declaration of support for men playing in their own league and not in hers — the leadership of the league is convening an emergency meeting to debate what should be the most obvious data point in the sport: who’s eligible to play in the WNBA.
Of course, the league, under the spineless leadership of Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, brought all this on itself when top officials refused to reaffirm Cunningham’s stance of keeping biological men out of girls’ sports. “If Title IX and women’s sports weren’t protected, then you wouldn’t hear about any type of women in sport,” Sophie had insisted. “I think in the future it’s just really important to protect.”
The league’s response to the Indiana Fever guard has been everything from dismissive to downright hostile. A trio of coaches even took the opposite (and very fringe) position, donning pro-trans T-shirts on the sidelines. Then, in perhaps the greatest slap in the face to the uniqueness of the sport — which has skyrocketed in popularity thanks to superstars like Caitlin Clark and Cunningham — headquarters released a statement emphasizing the WNBA’s absurd desire for “inclusion.”
“We embrace justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion,” the press release read. “Those are the values that unite this Union and allow it to protect women’s sports while creating transformational change. Hate, abuse, and demonization of any person or group of people, including transgender people, only fuel fear, division, and harm. We will continue to have hard conversations. But we will not be used as political pawns.”
Meanwhile, complicating matters for the WNBA brain trust, two former NBA players (men)— Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White — have decided to call the league’s bluff, announcing that they’re entering the WNBA draft, since they seem to meet Engelbert’s woke criteria for playing.”
Women fought too long and sacrificed too much for their own place in competitive athletics for society to suddenly become embarrassed by the word ‘woman.’”
Even famous male decathlete Caitlin (Bruce) Jenner (who now calls himself a woman) stated the truth about women’s sports:
“XX, you’re in. XY you’re out. It’s that simple.”
Yes, the First Amendment (and personal freedom) allow people like Jenner to make their own choices. You are free to deny reality.
But we must corporately reject the craziness when our personal choices impact others (social order).
How should we then live in the 21st century?
Be truth-tellers to bless people and strengthen our nations.
