It’s Not About Trump–It Never Was

For two years the nation has fixated on a polarizing figure named Donald Trump–first as he ran for president as a true outsider, and second, in his first year as president of the United States.

Next week, on the anniversary of his presidency, I will grade him as our chief executive.

This week I want to look behind the curtain of press hatred,  the “Resistance Movement, ” anti-Trumpers, Trump Derangement Syndrome and other maladies affecting our body politic.

It’s not about Donald Trump. It never was.

Here’s what’s really going on in the U.S.A.

I admit to possessing a myopic view of life through the lens of worldview. I’ve been writing and speaking on the subject for years–like a laser. Why? Because worldview thinking helps me understand on a broader scale what is taking place in front of my eyes. Worldview clarity helps everything make sense.

There are a number of reasons for my worldview obsession.

First, I’ve been giving considerable thought and meditation to what is happening around the globe and what is driving civilizational conflict. The worldview battles include Muslim immigration in Europe to transgender bathrooms and saying “Merry Christmas” in America.

I submit that we’re acutely experiencing a battle of worldviews in the 21st century.

Second, the subject of worldview has been important to me for decades–ever since I met and became acquainted with the writings of Francis Schaeffer and his epic work “How Should We Then Live?” Schaeffer opened my eyes to the intellectual strongholds that the devil uses to deceive people. All of these competing ideas fall under the category of worldview.

Third, in 2012 I decided to write my doctoral thesis at Faith International University on the subject of religion or worldview–which are really the same thing. That led to months of research and retrieving a lifetime of learning.

Here’s what I concluded: There are only five religions or ways of looking at God (worldviews). Four of them are false, based on fear and works. Only one of them is true, and operates through grace and faith.

Next month that thesis becomes a published book when River of God: Where Religion Began and Why Grace and Love Will Triumph is released.

It’s all about worldview. In fact, the last chapter called “Triumph” is a detailed analysis of the major worldview conflicts now being fought in what I call the Western Theater (The United States and Europe), the Middle East,  and the Asian or Eastern Front. In  the book I analyze the battle of ideas in each place and predict the winners.

Especially the long-term victor.

So forgive me for constantly gazing at the “man behind the curtain” when looking at current events. Worldview glasses are glued to my face and I can’t get rid of them.

Here’s what I see today.

The angst, anger, hatred, and resistance to Donald J. Trump that we’re currently experiencing in the United States and some parts of the world (mainly Europe) are not about him.

It’s not about Trump. It never was.

It’s always been about Jesus Christ and biblical faith.

Here’s what I mean.

Europe and America produced the world’s largest and most successful “Christian civilization” during the past five hundred years due to the power and ideas of the Reformation–spawning whole societies based on biblical values (never perfectly).  Winston Churchill used the phrase “defending Christian civilization” when leading the charge against Nazism–one of the many atheist worldview expressions of the 20th century.

Churchill (with our help) was successful.  Two generations ago in the West,  Christian ideals prevailed over the ideologies of atheism, Nazism, and communism (humanism, secularism and progressivism can be properly labeled their philosophical cousins).

Prior to the world wars, the faith-based West blessed the world for centuries, exporting human rights and free enterprise, pulling millions out of tyranny and poverty, and leading the charge of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ (world evangelism).

Then, the West began to turn away from its biblical moorings.

Europe sank quickly because its faith was more cultural and collective–not as keenly individual as in the United States. Today, Europe possesses only a shell of its Christian faith and secularism rules the day in most nations. Islamic immigration has elevated the Muslim worldview. Secular Europe could easily become Muslim Europe within two generations.

In America, the fall from faith has been less severe–but troublesome. As the American Church turned away from making disciples and aggressively sharing the Gospel, secular progressives made their move. The Bible was removed from the public schools.  Secular values gradually took over in education, government, and other spheres.

The election of Barack Obama brought a high tide of progressive values into American culture–especially government. Marriage was re-defined, genders were multiplied, tyrants were appeased (North Korea and Iran), and social justice and wealth res-distribution prevailed. America teetered on the verge of full conversion to secular democracy–far removed from being a faith-based republic.

Hillary Clinton’s hoped-for election would finalize the secular victory over biblical values.  With both the mainstream media and Deep State establishment clearly rooting for a Clinton win, victory was near. The coronation of progressive values would arrive in November of 2016.

Then Donald Trump won the presidency. He wasn’t the most faith-based of the Republican candidates–in fact, he might have the least.  But he beat them all, then went on to stun the nation and the world by becoming the 45th president of the United States.

Since taking office, against all odds and despite many missteps, he has governed largely through a faith-based ideology not seen since the hey-days of Ronald Reagan.

Incredible.

The progressive movement has been stymied–at least for a time. In one year’s span, many progressive initiatives have been reversed. Barack Obama is watching many of his legacy items rescinded by a renewal of policies that promote faith in God, freedom and prosperity, smaller government, lower taxes, peace through strength, biblical morality, defeating evil (Isis) and the like.

It was even fashionable to say “Merry Christmas” this year.

God knew something that most of us didn’t. He knew that only Donald Trump could win the 2016 presidential election and have the strength of personality to stand up to and possibly reverse the near-triumph of progressivism.

He astounded the experts and won–providentially.  How else do you explain the greatest political upset in history and the radical worldview change it brings?

Because of Trump’s unexpected coup, an all-out assault to take him down was launched to preserve and resurrect the progressive agenda.

  • 91% of news coverage has been against Donald Trump. In fact, The Pew Research Center puts the positive about Trump at only 5%. Hence, “Fake News.”
  • The Deep State has leaked many documents to embarrass and confuse him.
  • The Russian Collusion narrative was invented to de-legitimize the election and try and bring about impeachment proceedings to remove him from office.
  • Many have  questioned his fitness and sanity–even proposing he suffers from dementia (trying to trigger his expulsion from office via the 25th Amendment).
  • Progressives now seem to be looking to Oprah (an Obama  friend) to save them.

So, is this really about Donald Trump?

No. In fact, it’s not even about secular progressives.

Behind all that’s happening in the world stands a mystery of iniquity (2 Thessalonians 2:7) that is at work. Satan and his demons are desperately trying to stamp out the image and ways of Jesus Christ. The demonic world manipulates human beings and their worldviews to achieve their sinister goal.

On a governmental level, they were winning in America. Now they’re losing (for the moment).

American exceptionalism centers around a profound faith in Jesus Christ, His salvation, Kingdom, and principles for living. The United States, more than any nation in history, has demonstrated and exported those truths to the world.

It’s not about Trump. It never was.

It’s about “killing Jesus” in America to impede world evangelism.

Do you see it?

This is a spiritual battle, as you laid out for us, Ron. I believe the prayers that Christians prayed during the election were so important and continue to be critical. God’s plan is always done but His desire is for us to be involved. We are meant to be in relationship with Him and I believe He sometimes adjusts His plans based on our faithfulness (or lack thereof). So we must continue to be on our knees and not waiver.

Thanks …yes. So true. It’s not about Trump. I believe this is our time and season to rise up as a Warriior dress for battle. Time for the church to wake up to the call. Need to mobilize the whole body of Christ and intercede for the President, family, leaders and the nation.
    2 Chronicles 7:14
    If my people…..
It’s a spiritual battle and the enemy is using the media to confuse and deceive the people.
God is restoring whatever the devil has stolen in this country. Time to take back our place of authority.
Clean up campaign is happening now all over the country and even with the so called celebrities in Hollywood. Nothing can be hidden.
    Amen
